Keele University Smart Energy Network Demonstrator – Green Gown Award

On Tuesday 9th July, TEC and the EAUC were delighted to co-host a webinar outlining the groundbreaking work being undertaken across the Keele University campus.

As we once again look forward to the announcement of the prestigious Green Gown Awards, TEC and the EAUC were joined by Julian Read, Matt Dean and India Ford who spoke insightfully about Keele’s groundbreaking Smart Energy Network Demonstrator (SEND) – Highly Commended in last  year’s 2030 Climate Action category. Webinar Highlights included:

  • Keele University’s Smart Energy Network Demonstrator (SEND): Detailed oversight of this European first, which integrates with the campuses Low Carbon Energy Generation Park, making Keele University’s campus a significant player in the field of smart energy.
  • Living Laboratory: We discovered how Keele’s campus, akin to a small town with mixed-use buildings, serves as a ‘living laboratory’ for intelligent energy generation, distribution, storage, forecasting, and balancing across various energy sources.
  • Innovative Energy Management: Overview of how the SEND project enhances energy management, reduces fossil-fuel reliance, minimises energy waste, and provides a platform for trialling innovative energy use and management solutions.
  • Accelerating the Energy Transition: Explored how SEND supports public and private sector organisations, universities, and advances research and education to accelerate the energy transition.
  • Student Employability: Discovered how the SEND programme provides students and graduates with opportunities to work with local SMEs on bespoke projects, equipping them with important skills for their future careers.

Congratulations again to the Keele University team for such a fantastic submission to the Green Gowns 2030 Climate Action category. TEC very much looks forward to our continued involvement with the Green Gowns and to sharing best practice from future submissions at this year’s awards.
