Annual Report

As we enter the new year, we’re pleased to announce that our Annual Report has been sent out for 2024. If you haven’t caught up with it yet follow this link.

Celebrating TEC’s 30th anniversary, our report reflects on three decades of shared success, challenges, and opportunities. It features insights from our Chair, Managing Director, and leadership team, member case studies, updates from Framework partners, and highlights from our Carbon Reduction solutions team.

Member Spotlight: University of Greenwich

The University of Greenwich is committed to achieving net zero carbon by 2030. The University’s estate comprises of three campuses with a huge range of building types, styles and ages. Key to the institution’s decarbonisation ambitions is the installation of air-source heat pumps at its Avery Hill campus, supported by Salix funding through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

Noel McSweeney from the University delivered an insightful session at our conference and in a recent webinar, which you can find the slides for here.

To read more about their decarbonisation journey and successes, you can find it under “Case Studies” in the “My Documents” section on our website’s member area here.

30 Years of TEC

As we step into 2025, we reflect on TEC’s incredible journey since its founding in 1994. What began as a small offshoot of AUDE with just six members has grown into an incorporated company with 184 members, providing services in energy procurement, risk management, data insight, water management, and carbon reduction.

Carbon Reduction

This month, we launched several mini surveys to better support our members in managing energy costs, minimising exposure to time-of-day pricing, and preparing for future price fluctuations. Here’s a quick reminder of the surveys currently open:

1. Panel, Storage, and Immersion Heaters

Help us understand the use and control of direct electrical heating systems across estates, which could play a key role in avoiding high tariff rates or benefiting from demand-side response activities. Take the survey here.

2. Lighting

As many members transition to LED lighting, we want to identify common challenges and explore ways to support wider rollouts. Take the survey here.

3. Solar

We’re fostering collaboration by gathering insights from members experienced in solar installations to share best practices and overcome shared challenges. Take the survey here.

We will be providing more on the outcomes from these surveys in the next few months.

Additionally, we’ve reached out to our Welsh members to gauge interest in forming a Welsh members group—details to follow soon!

A big thank you to everyone who has participated in our surveys so far.

Prefect Meetings – Prefect is a mini-BEMS system that some organisations use to control heating appliances. You may have seen that we have set up a group for Prefect users who are interested in getting the best value out of their system.

Prefect will be joining the online meeting we have on 28th of February to talk about the development of their products and to answer questions. If you have use the Prefect system and would like to join, please drop a line to John Brenton (john.brenton@tec.ac.uk) with Prefect Group in the subject line.

A reminder that all members are welcome to join our working groups—please get in touch if you’re interested.

Finally, keep an eye on the members’ area of our website for updates on member case studies, working group notes, policy papers, and more.
