The pressure on British Gas from growing independent suppliers is intense enough without the additional impact of the herd mentality of collective switching. However much of the bad news around financial performance comes, it is claimed, from their business facing markets. One wonders how much of the £46 million write off is down to their losses in the UK business supply market and possible compensation for poor customer service.
So it should perhaps be no surprise at their announcement to cease standard variable tariffs, the very tariffs which have come in for criticism and which are targeted for caps once legislation can be passed. Things could get worse yet for BG.
